Storing natural products properly: how to keep powders, oils, berries and capsules in good condition

by Dirk Boerger on September 23, 2026

When buying natural products, most people focus first on choosing the right product. What many only notice afterwards is that proper storage also plays an important role.

At HANOJU, we carry a wide variety of products. These include powders, capsules and tablets, but also oils, dried fruits, seeds and other foods. Accordingly, the storage requirements can differ too.

So we would like to show what we would pay attention to when storing our products and which simple mistakes can be avoided.

Why storage matters

Light, heat, moisture and air can affect foods and natural products. That is why our packaging states how a product should be stored – and not without reason.

With powders in particular, moisture is an issue. If the pack is repeatedly opened in a humid environment, the powder can clump.

With oils, on the other hand, light and heat are the main factors. Dried fruits should be kept as dry as possible, while capsules and tablets are best stored according to the instructions on the packaging.

Our first tip is therefore very simple:

The storage instructions on the respective product packaging should always take priority.

Storing powders properly

At HANOJU you will find powders in many different varieties. These include, for example, plant powders, superfood powders and other natural raw materials.

With powders, the most important thing is to close the pack tightly again after use.

What we would pay attention to:

  • store powders in a dry place

  • avoid direct moisture

  • reseal the packaging after each use

  • avoid using wet measuring spoons

  • do not store directly above steam or next to the stove

The last point in particular is easily overlooked in everyday life.

If you use your powder in the kitchen in the morning and keep the pack right next to the kettle, you should look for a drier spot.

A dry kitchen cupboard can already be perfectly sufficient.

The measuring spoon should be dry

A small tip that is especially worthwhile with powders:

The measuring spoon should always be dry before it goes back into the pack.

That sounds obvious at first. But with the morning smoothie or shake, it happens quickly: measure out the powder, prepare the drink and perhaps put the spoon back while it is still damp.

That is exactly what we want to avoid.

It is best to dry the measuring spoon briefly and only then put it back into the pack.

This keeps the powder dry and easy to portion.

Capsules and tablets

Storing capsules and tablets is usually straightforward.

Here, too, a dry and suitable storage place is important. The packaging should be closed again after taking out what you need.

We would therefore not store capsules and tablets permanently in the bathroom. Humidity there is often higher than in other rooms because of showering and bathing.

A spot directly above the radiator or right next to another heat source is not ideal either.

A normal cupboard in the living area or kitchen is, depending on the product and packaging, often the more practical solution.

However, the specific information on the respective product always remains decisive.

Oils do not like it particularly bright and warm

With oils, the situation is somewhat different.

Our HANOJU organic coconut oil, for example, is a food and can be solid or liquid depending on the temperature. That is completely normal for coconut oil.

When storing it, you should nevertheless make sure not to expose the oil to unnecessarily high temperatures.

Direct sunlight should also be avoided.

That is why we would not leave a bottle of oil permanently on the windowsill if the sun shines on it all day.

A darker, rather cool place in the kitchen is usually the better choice.

Storing dried berries and fruits properly

Dried foods are also part of our range. One example is our organic goji berries, which are sold as dried fruit.

Here, the main thing is to keep the fruit dry and well sealed.

After opening, the packaging should be carefully closed again. Especially with dried foods, you want to prevent them from unnecessarily absorbing moisture from the surroundings.

If you buy a larger pack, you should therefore not leave the whole pack open for long each time.

It is better to take out what you need at the moment and then close it again.

What belongs in the fridge?

This is a question we always find interesting when it comes to natural products.

Not every natural product automatically belongs in the fridge.

Whether refrigeration makes sense or is necessary depends on the respective product. That is why you should not simply act on the motto "cold is always better".

Some products are intended for normal dry storage, while others may come with special instructions after opening.

So here too:

Don't guess – check the specific product information.

This is particularly important for oils, juices or products with special storage instructions.

The right place in the kitchen

Many of our customers store their HANOJU products in the kitchen. That is generally practical, because powders, berries and other foods are then close at hand.

But even within the kitchen there are differences.

Rather unfavourable:

  • right next to the stove

  • above the radiator

  • on a sunny windowsill

  • next to the kettle

  • in very damp places

Better suited:

  • a dry kitchen cupboard

  • protected from direct sunlight

  • not directly next to heat sources

  • well sealed

  • clean and dry

This way you really don't have to go to much effort.

What about opened packs?

As soon as a product has been opened, everyday practice really begins.

We recommend not leaving the packaging open for longer than necessary. With powder, for example, you should not prepare breakfast first and then leave the open pack standing for minutes afterwards.

Take out what you need, close the pack again, done.

A clean seal also makes sense for berries and other dried foods.

And of course you should always pay attention to the best-before date and the manufacturer's instructions.

Large pack or small pack?

A larger pack can be practical if you use a product regularly.

However, the size should also match your own consumption.

If you only use a product occasionally, you do not automatically have to choose the largest pack available.

At HANOJU, different pack sizes are available depending on the product. Our organic goji berries, for example, come in 250 g and 500 g versions.

We think it makes sense not only to look at price or quantity when choosing, but also at how regularly the product is actually used.

Keeping your natural products cupboard tidy

If you use several products at the same time, you probably know the situation:

A powder here, capsules next to it, an oil at the back and somewhere an opened pack of berries.

A little order makes storage much easier.

We would group similar products together and store the packs so that you can quickly see what has already been opened.

For products you use regularly, it can also make sense to use up the older opened packs first.

That sounds trivial, but it prevents products from sitting in the cupboard for an unnecessarily long time.

Not every natural product is the same

That is exactly what matters to us with this topic.

A powder is stored differently from an oil.

A dried fruit is handled differently from capsules.

And for a food, different instructions may apply than for a food supplement.

That is why we would not say across the board: "All HANOJU products are stored like this."

It makes much more sense to look at the individual product.

The ingredients, the packaging, the form and the respective storage instructions all play a role.

Our little HANOJU storage check

If you are unsure about a product, you can simply go through these points:

1. Is the packaging properly closed?

Close it tightly again after every use.

2. Is the storage place dry?

This is especially important for powders and dried foods.

3. Is the product out of direct sunlight?

Direct sunlight should be avoided where possible.

4. Is it not unnecessarily warm?

Products should not be placed right next to the stove, radiator or other heat sources.

5. Is the measuring spoon dry?

A small but practical point for powder products.

6. What does the packaging say?

The individual storage instructions for each product are always decisive.

Storing natural products properly doesn't have to be complicated

Basically, you don't need any special equipment for it.

A dry cupboard, a suitable spot and careful handling of the products are often enough in everyday life.

At HANOJU you will find many different natural products – from powders and tablets to dried fruits, oils and other foods. It is precisely this variety that makes it worthwhile to think about proper storage as well.

Our tip is therefore very simple: open the product, take out the amount you need, close the packaging properly again and follow the respective storage instructions.

This keeps daily use uncomplicated – and the products are exactly where you need them in everyday life.
